There used to be show called Truth or Consequences on TV in the 1950’s thru the early 1970’s.  We now have a real time reality show called Trump and Contradictions.

Every politician accuses his or her opponent of flip-flopping their position on certain ideologies and promises, some more than others.  We are now in the MOST more than others.  The following examples are either direct quotes from a speech or a tweet and some are reported remarks.  For example:

September 27, 2016 – “If you’re not guilty of a crime, what do you need immunity for”?

March 31, 2017 – “Mike Flynn should ask for immunity in that this is a witch hunt (excuse or big election loss), by media & Dems, of historic proportion”

June 15, 2013 – “We should stay the hell out of Syria, the “rebels” are just as bad as the current regime. WHAT WILL WE GET FOR OUR LIVES AND $ BILLIONS?? ZERO”.

September 2013 – “President Obama, do not attack Syria.  There is no upside and tremendous downside.  Save your “powder” for another (and more important) day.”

April 5, 2017 – “…These heinous actions by the Bashar al-Amad regime are a consequence of the past administration’s weakness and irresolution”.

August 2012 – “An extremely credible source has called my office and told me that Barack Obama’s birth certificate is a fraud”.

September 2016 – “Any time you see a story about me or my campaign saying “sources said”, DO NOT believe it.  There are no sources, they are just made-up lies.”

November 2012 – “The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make United States manufacturing non-competitive”.

September 22, 2016 – In the first presidential debate, Donald Trump denied saying that he stated climate change was a Chinese hoax.

October 9, 2016 – “If I win, I want a special prosecutor looking into Clinton’s “situation“,”.

November 22, 2016 – President-Elect Trump said he had no intention of pressing for an investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private server or the financial operations of her family’s foundation, dropping the “Lock her up” pledge that became a rallying cry for his campaign for the White House.

July 8, 2015 – Candidate Trump, “Hillary Clinton was the worst Secretary of State in the history of the United States”.

May 11, 2016 – “Hillary Clinton I think is a terrific woman. I’m a little biased because I’ve known her for years. I live in New York. She lives in New York. …”.

Jan 30, 2017 – Trump: “Keystone and Dakota pipelines will be built with American steel … the pipe to be manufactured with United States steel,” Trump said.

March 3, 2017 – The Keystone XL pipeline won’t be required to use American-made steel to earn construction approval from the Trump administration, the White House said Friday, despite President Donald Trump’s repeated claims.

June 15, 2016 – I will build a great wall — and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me –and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great, great wall on our southern border, and I will make Mexico pay for that wall. Mark my words.”

Campaign promise – Trump has insisted that he will force Mexico to pay for the wall, but Mexican officials have refused. The president’s budget request Thursday included $2.6 billion, mostly for first stages of the wall.

March 9, 2017 – When asked whether the neighbouring nation would foot the bill, he said ‘Uh, no’ – Senator Mitch McConnell.

Trump is at his most bewildering when it comes to nukes. He has repeatedly insisted that nuclear stockpiles should be reduced, saying last week, “I think nuclear weapons should be way down and reduced very substantially.”

But it’s difficult to square that view with the position he took in December, when he tweeted, “The United States must greatly strengthen and expand its nuclear capability until such time as the world comes to its senses regarding nukes.”

He elaborated the next day that he had no problem if that position led other countries to build up their own nuclear capabilities. “Let it be an arms race,” he reportedly told MSNBC.

And we’re not even 100 days into this!!!

No measured words, no Uhs to buy time to think.

The truth is hard.

The truth is hidden.

The truth must be pursued.

The truth is hard to hear.

The truth is rarely simple.

The truth isn’t so obvious.

The truth is necessary.

The truth can’t be glossed over.

The truth has no agenda.

The truth can’t be manufactured.

The truth doesn’t take sides.

The truth isn’t red or blue.

The truth is hard to accept.

The truth pulls no punches.

The truth is powerful.

The truth is under attack.

The truth is worth defending.

The truth requires taking a stand.

The truth is more important now than ever.

Every generation has its own life-altering moment.  I imagine it was the day Pearl Harbor was attacked for my mother and father.  December 7, 1941, “…a day which will live in infamy.”   President Roosevelt delivered his famous Infamy speech the next day and the world turned upside down.  Within weeks, thousands of young men, my Dad included, showed up at the various military induction centers.  He chose the Navy and for him the war was in the Pacific ocean.  America switched gears and literally went from producing butter to guns.  I wish my Dad or Mom were still alive so I could ask them the generational question, Where were you when….?

During my youth, of course I was well aware of the Pearl Harbor attack.  Not only was I a child of a veteran, I also grew up watching the plethora of war movies that were made in those post-war years.  I remember Robert Mitchum. Clark Gable, Gary Cooper, Edward G. Robinson, James Cagney, Gregory Peck and Burt Lancaster.  We grew up with Ding Dong School, Fall Out Shelters, Elvis Presley, the fear of Communism, the Cold War and the Beatles.  When did my world stop and gasp and change?  The day President Kennedy was shot.  50 years ago today, I was a sophomore in high school.  The loud speakers of the intercom system rang out with a few long beeps to get everyone’s attention.  Then we heard those horrible, insidious words; “The President has been shot.”   Screams of  ” Oh No, Oh God” resounded through the halls.  Who would do such a thing?  Yes we knew that a president could be assassinated, after all history had taught us about President Abraham Lincoln.  But that was then and this is now and our beloved President had been shot and might die.  We were the kids who did the sit-ups, the jumping jacks and the dreaded push-ups, all part of President Kennedy’s Physical Fitness Program.  He was our hero, the First Lady was beautiful and life in the early 60’s was good.  School was immediately dismissed and we all scurried home to our moms (who of course were home) and spent the rest of day crying and watching Walter Cronkite.  Church bells rang, flags were lowered to half staff and we cried, our mothers cried and when Dad came home, his jaw tightly set, he cried.

And then along came our children, the future Generation X and Y.  My son was just a toddler when the Vietnam War was played  out night after night on the television but it didn’t really affect his life – his father was not going to war. These kids were living a life their grandparents only dreamed of in terms of the quality of life, the enormous strides in technology bringing them further and further into the 20th Century.  They were students of Sesame Street; I had loved Mickey Mouse, they loved Big Bird.  My son went to a private high school, my daughter played soccer and tennis, they spent summers at the country club pool.  But they also had turmoil and trouble and this time it was really close to home.   The divorce rate in America skyrocketed and for the first time in America, thousands and thousands of the next generation were being raised in single parent households.  I cried when John Lennon died, they cried when Michael Jackson died.  By the time this group of young people reached their 30’s, their Where were you when moment hit and hit them hard.

911 happened and their world turned upside down.  Of the over 2500 people killed that day, more than half of them were part of Gen X and Gen Y.  So many of the young warriors of Wall St. perished in their day of infamy.  All of sudden, the world that they grew up in which was so safe and secure transformed into a world where you couldn’t get on an airplane with your bottle of shampoo or your cuticle scissors.  Armed soldiers roamed through Grand Central Station and police stood on the subway platforms.  Now, going to a museum or the theater meant having your briefcase or handbag examined before you can enter.

So Where Were You When 911 took place?

Gemini

HELLO to all my followers and sometime readers. I am about to hit a real benchmark and I can hardly believe it myself!  Wordpress keeps you informed on myriad details about your blog and your posts.  Everyday I see how many visitors come to the blog and what the average number of views per person is as well as from what countries the hits are coming.  I see which blog posts are the most popular, the number of views per month, and the search engine terms that people type in and end up on my blog.

All this information is useful and to some niche bloggers, it would be essential.  Unfortunately for me I never found my niche.  I write about my life, my travels, the foods I cook, the movies I see and often post information and research on dozens of totally unrelated things. I post photos of my grandchildren and the moon. I was fortunate enough to have my good friend, Murray Head send me hundreds of photos that I posted on Fab Foto Friday.  Sounds  a little scattered doesn’t it.  I think that describes the mind of a person born on the cusp of Gemini and Taurus.  At any given time, there are 3 minds at work with or against one another!

Well here’s where I’m at;  I love writing my blog even though my husband and daughter wonder why.  I freely admit that my blog like 99% of all blogs is more or less  an egocentric stream of consciousness.  Over the short life of this blog, I’ve tried various ideas to entice a following because even though I am (supposedly) writing this for myself, don’t think for a minute that I don’t relish seeing the number of hits the blog has each day.  I loved Six Word Memoir Monday and may try to reinstate it but I need your input!  Conspiracy Theory Wednesday was a fantastic exposeé on the Kennedy Assassination, Top Ten Thursday allows for a wide range of subject matter and Tasty Tidbits Tuesday and Every Day Food are one of my joys.

BUT now I WANT YOU! I am 7 posts short of ONE THOUSAND! WOWIE ZOWIE!   I only have to write 7 more posts and I will have reached a real benchmark for myself.  I would love it if you would comment and give me some ideas as to what these next 7 posts should be about;  Do you want a repeat of one of your favs or do you have a scathingly (or not so scathingly) brilliant idea I can incorporate into a post?

Pretty Please?!

This week marks the month anniversary of Occupy Wall St.  So it’s tim e I gave it some press in the blog, after all…it began here!

At first, I, like millions of others, thought this fairly small group of protestors would hold a rally, probably march around and then go home.  NOT!  Like a virus, the protest multiplied quickly and the core grew larger and more vocal.  Not particularly organized, the group has been able to sort itself out as a collective force and a cohesive community.  And like a virus, the movement spread as it found other receptive host areas around the world.  Later tonight or this week, I hope to give you another post wherein you’ll see some interesting parallels.

I don’t need to write too much about Occupy Wall St. because it is in the news every day.  Especially here in New York City, we are almost hourly informed of where they are, what park they will camp out in, what the Mayor has to say about it all and which of the protestors has been beaten, knocked down or pepper-sprayed by police, not to mention the reports of how much money is being spent by law enforcement to keep everything and everyone under control.  The funny thing is, I don’t think they’re out of control at all.

Lastly as a prelude to some pictures, I’d like to quote what seems to be the mission statement on the web site Occupywallst.org – OF COURSE there’s a web site!!! And an agenda!

Occupy Wall Street is leaderless resistance movement with people of many colors, genders and political persuasions. The one thing we all have in common is that We Are The 99% that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%. We are using the revolutionary Arab Spring tactic to achieve our ends and encourage the use of nonviolence to maximize the safety of all participants.

I was rooting around for a conspiracy theory tonight on the internet and look what I found!  A site that proclaims to be the be all end all place to go to read about Obama Conspiracy theories, in fact the title of the blog is Obama Conspiracy Theories.

Gotta give credit where credit is due and this blog has a great post about the latest lawsuit initiated by none other than Orly Taitz and what is she suing and pursuing?  Why she wants to see a certified copy of Obama’s birth certificate.  And I thought this half -ass, half-baked theory had been laid to rest.  Guess the major newspapers are not delivered in Moldova.  Well there’s no reason for me to reconstruct this information, I’m going to re-post it here.

Queen Birther, Lady Liberty or bat-**** crazy, Orly Taitz (pictured right) can still draw a crowd.

Her antics yesterday in Hawaii generated enough traffic at The Fogbow to take the site down, as well as spawn some brief outages here at Obama Conspiracy Theories. The number of visits here doubled from the day before, and what is more significant, “new visitors” achieved pre-long form levels of 50% of total traffic.

Local Honolulu TV station KHON2 even gave a short mention of Taitz on its web site under the “most popular story” section. The station quotes Taitz:

We were able to get to the bottom of Watergate and it’s time to get to the bottom of Obama forgery-gate, or Obama fraud-gate – it’s time,

and Hawaii Deputy Attorney General Jill Nagamine from a letter:

Official photo of Congresswoman Michele Bachma...

Michele Bachmann

CONSPIRACY THEORY WEDNESDAY

Did you think I had abandoned this subject?  Seems so, I know, but I think it’s just that the flux of conspiracy theories had subsided somewhat.  But not for long…. Michele Bachmann, the erudite congresswoman from Minnesota came up with a doozy in June.  I have been remiss by not bringing this up sooner, sorry about that!

Maybe my timing is perfect, now that for at least the moment, the country isn’t going bankrupt.  No thanks to the Tea Party Republicans, that lunatic fringe group which has engulfed the Republican party.

Michele, a wannabe candidate for the Presidency (oh my dear God!) delivered the following diatribe accusing President Obama of secretly wishing Medicare would go bankrupt because then retirees would be forced to choose Obamacare.

“This hasn’t been talked about very much – the president’s plan for senior citizens is Obamacare,” Ms. Bachmann told party activists here. She added, “I think very likely what the president intends is that Medicare will go broke and ultimately that answer will be Obamacare for senior citizens.”

Are you f_____g kidding me?  I thought Sarah was one of the dumbest women ever to speak in public, shame on the Republicans for allowing her to make a mockery of a campaign for the Vice-Presidency AND now this idiot – HOW did she ever get elected???  You know the old adage, “if you haven’t got anything nice to say, don’t say anything”?  Well Michele should take this to heart and insert the word intelligent for nice.  With that montra, she would’t be able to speak for quite some time. Amen to that!

Steve Benen of the Washington Monthly said the following about Bachmann: “Bachmann’s principal problem is that she combines the worst of two important traits: she’s strikingly ignorant about public policy and she’s paranoid to the point of delusion.”

I literally can’t write anymore about her, she is an affront to my intelligence and that of my readers.
